Swedish delights

So I’m just back from a few days in Sweden and I’ve eaten like Agnetha, Anni-Frid, Bjorn and Benny all rolled into one!

I can hardly move for the food coma that I’m in. But it was worth it. Every single last delicious bite of those 6 days were a delight.

The coffee is delicious and every sip you take is accompanied by what the Swedish called Fika. It’s a word used to describe a bun or a cake which goes with coffee. It’s a fun sociable part of Swedish life and a great occasion to catch up with a friend and have some cake. It has rekindle my lust for baking and I’m going to try my hand at it a bit more over the coming weeks!

There were cinnamon buns, there were cardamom buns and marzipan ones.



There was a chocolate ball. Delicious, sticky chocolate ball.


There was ice cream. Glorious, glorious ice cream. I had licorice ice cream. And vanilla. And saffron ice cream (I don’t know if I’m ever going to get over it!). And some more licorice icy magic.

Here’s what I look like tasting this delicious bounty. It’s culture, right?


But you know the way, you always hear that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Well it’s true. At least it’s true when I get together with my friends. Breakfasts are an occasion for a proper feast and pretty much anything goes. We sit around and eat, drink coffee and talk some funny shite for a while. It’s the best way to start the day.

The star of the breakfast are always Tommy’s eggs. They are cooked for 6 min. No more. No less. And they are delicious.

They’ll often be sliced on some traditional bread spread with “caviar”. Add some black pepper and you’re flying! Just you look at them and dream of them.





Thankfully, Ikea is pretty much every where these days and you can get your swedish basics there and then improvise.
